Scars Treatment

Scars should always be assessed and treated.

Welcome to the Scars Treatment Protocol. This protocol is designed to help you to regulate neurosensory responses, improve tissue quality, restore mobility, and reintegrate the scar into the body’s sensory map.

Program Outline

Initial Evaluation:

  • Detailed history: scar type, evolution, symptoms (pain, itching, numbness, tightness).

  • Palpation and observation: color, adhesions, elasticity, local temperature, sensitivity.

  • Neuromuscular and proprioceptive tests: sensory integration tests, reflex testing, and possible viscerosomatic interactions.

Sensory Fiber Stimulation:

  • Goal: Reeducate the somatosensory system and modulate brain interpretation of the scar.

  • Low-frequency vibration.

  • Light rhythmic tapping.

  • C and A-delta fibers (temperature, pain):

  • Controlled thermal stimulation (warm/cold cloths).

  • Gentle tapping/percussion.

  • Circular superficial friction with oil or calming essential oils (lavender, frankincense).

Manual Physiotherapy / Osteopathy:

  • Myofascial release of the scar and surrounding tissues.

  • Visceral techniques if the scar is abdominal or thoracic (e.g. C-section, laparotomy).

Integrative Therapeutic Exercise:

  • Active, mindful movement of the affected area.

  • Sensorimotor reintegration exercises: slow movements with full awareness.

Neuroeducation and Body Awareness:

  • Patient education on how the nervous system interprets scars.

  • Guided visualization to reintegrate the scarred area as functional and safe.
